Rug Wash Tour

Standards of Care: Shuwb Rug Service is committed to the continual education in the technical and academic aspects of the rug cleaning craft so that we can deliver the best workmanship to our clients and the care of their rugs. We have the necessary tools, a very strong attention to detail and the motivation to clean your rugs as thoroughly as possible.

Pre-Inspection: We inspect every rug before cleaning. We look for any areas of concern or pre-existing characteristics that you should be made aware of. All hand woven rugs have natural color variations such as white knots and abrash. These can sometimes be hidden by layers of soil, which our pre-inspection process will determine.

Dusting: Just as with any hard surface in your home, dust settles almost continually on a rug. A thick 9 x 10 rug can hold pounds of dry soil before it begins to actually "look" dirty. We use a very powerful, yet gentle brushless vacuum to remove the embedded dust.

Dye Testing: We test the stability of the dyes in your rug to make certain that we can set them in our wash process. We use vinegar to "set" fugitive dyes.

Washing: Your rug is then placed in our wash pit and given a thorough "bath" with mild shampoo made specifically for the rug cleaning industry and mixed with cold water. The next step is to rinse it thoroughly with cold water.

Drying: Most of the water is extracted in the wash pit and your rug is then rolled out flat to be dried. Drying rugs flat keeps them from stretching. Just as with some wool garments (such as sweaters) oriental rugs, hand woven rugs and other specialty rugs need to be laid flat to dry without high heat application.

Fringe Cleaning: We clean the fringe tassels without  the aid of chlorine bleach or hydrogen peroxide to avoid structural damage to the foundation of the rug that these harsh products will cause.

Finishing: After a final inspection your rug is groomed, rolled and ready to go home.
